SECOND HARVEST FOODBANK AND THE PRINCETON CLUB TEAM UP TO GET FIT AND FEED SOUTHWESTERN WISCONSIN
Million Pound Challenge starts January 1
MADISON, Wis., December 30, 2009 – Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin and the Princeton Club announce the Million Pound Challenge, a fitness and weight loss campaign that directly benefits Second Harvest Foodbank's emergency food pantry partners throughout its 16-county service area. The Million Pound Challenge begins January 1 and runs through May 31, 2010.
"The Million Pound Challenge is a great way to provide a little extra motivation to people who want to lose some weight, get in better shape, and at the same time, provide food to our community members facing hunger," said Dave Gerry, President of the Princeton Club. "We are proud to partner with Second Harvest Foodbank to end hunger in southwestern Wisconsin."
Million Pound Challenge participants register at www.princetonclub.net to exercise or lose weight and select a Second Harvest Foodbank emergency food pantry to benefit. For every pound of weight lost, the Princeton Club and other sponsors will contribute 10 pounds of food – up to one million pounds of food to Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin. That is 500 tons of food. Participants who do not need to shed pounds can join the Million Pound Challenge through an exercise option. The campaign is open to both individuals and groups, and participants can workout at their local fitness center, home or wherever works best for them. No purchase is necessary.
"Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin is excited to be involved with the Million Pound Challenge," said Dan Stein, President/CEO for Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin. "We encourage the community to participate and improve their health while helping our neighbors who struggle with hunger."
The Million Pound Challenge website (www.princetonclub.net) has educational resources for participants looking to lose weight and get in shape. It also has great tools that can be downloaded to motivate groups on the "Media" page, including the campaign logo, posters, banners and a video.
